You blew it. Nobody knows the terms. Nobody even knows if there were actually any discussions. To be fair, maybe Brian Cashman blew it, like he did in choosing Nick Johnson's 31 dog-years old body over Hideki Matsui's 37 year old human body.
For shame ,for shame, John. The rumored offer of $16 million over 2 years is perhaps a little short, yes. But you took a full $13 million in 2007 to show up "fat, lazy, stupid". YOU put the team in a deep hole in spring training.
Some of this talk that "nothing has actually been discussed" between the Yankees and Damon is bringing back memories of Andy Pettitte's departure, and how there was a long delay in an offer being made.
Am I to believe that the two sides haven't actually communicated - at all? I just find that hard to believe. Its beginning to feel like each side is trying harder to manage public opinion than come to either an accord - or a split.
I would've liked to have Damon back, he fits into the lineup perfectly. I can't see any team out there that has both the need ,and the means, to pay him what he thinks he deserves.
